All day adventures at national parks and forests for our canine friends
**Some parks have no reception so you will be updated upon our return.
We offer easy, moderate and strenuous hikes. The size of our hiking groups is 4 pups per pack. Most of our hikes will be on-leash, we will remove the waste according to the guidelines and we will ensure safety for all of our participants and our fellow trail users.
Explanation of hiking levels:
Easy hike:
Elevation gain up to 200 feet at a leisurely pace.
Moderate hike:
Elevation gain between 200 to 600 feet. Leisurely to moderate pace. The hike will have more uphill (steeper) grades.
Strenuous hike:
Elevation gain is 600 feet or more. Moderate to vigorous pace. Longer distance with steeper hills.
We abide by the local rules and regulations and support the trail etiquette that is set by the parks. We are a casual hiking club and we embrace the idea of having the privilege to be in the outdoors versus having a right to be there. We set an example of showing how dogs can excellently interact with other preserve/parks visitors like hikers, mountain bikers and equestrians.
Where do we go?
Our pack leader researches the destination and announces it each month on this page, we go to hiking trails with lakes and streams that are dog friendly, ALWAYS supervised.
Is it safe? Ticks, coyotes and snakes, oh my!
There are unforeseeable elements such as wildlife and we will do our best to keep your pups safe. We are always prepared for emergencies and have our certifications from the American Red Cross to provide first aid and CPR if need be. Please remember that some of our hikes are not for pups that have certain health issues and/or conditions that could endanger their well-being during these adventures.
Our team is always prepared and watchful of potential dangers to our doggies. We even do a final check at the end of the day for ticks, however, we do recommend that you check yourselves after we return to make sure that we did not miss anything. Especially if you have a long haired pup!
There will be some occasional scratches and scrapes from running around the brush and through rocks but nothing serious will be overlooked.
Additionally, we are in contact with park rangers in the parks that we visit for warnings about coyotes and poisonous snakes. Our packs are large so the likelihood that we will be bothered is very small but you do have to understand that there are always unforeseeable risks when we are out in the wild and you should weigh out these risks to decide if you are comfortable with them before reserving your spots.
Pack a bag or doggie back pack!
Pack a snack bag, bowl and a toy (that could be lost). Don't pack expensive toys that could be lost during the hike please. Also, sunscreen or sun block if your doggie has sensitive skin. And of course, feel free to visit Pussy & Pooch to get the best dog back packs at the best prices!
What not to pack:
Retractable leashes and uncomfortable shoes if you chose to join us!
How many pups per pack?
4 max per pack leader, 6 max with assistant dog walker
Off-leash?
Only if the pack leader knows your pup well enough to know (s)he will not run away and not come back. This will be at the discretion of the pack leader in charge. New pups that we don't know well and/or are not in our daycare packs are on-leash only.
Charity Miles, yay...
The wooftidoo pet services team uses Charity Miles during our hikes and adventures to earn 25¢ per mile that each of us walk.
We will be hiking for the ASPCA. If you would like to join us in this effort please visit http://www.charitymiles.org and/or download the app for your phone!

Strenuous hike | Approximately 10-12 miles
wooftidoo pet services is doing it again, this March we will be visiting the Los Padres National Forest, specifically the picturesque Horn Canyon Trailhead. This will be a moderate hike with gorgeous scenery. It is quite a long drive but it will be very much worth the trip. The trail begins at Thatcher School, crosses Sisar Road (4N15), and ends at Hines Peak Road, about midway between Chief Peak and Topatopa Bluff. The Pines Camp, at 2.5 miles, has three campsites set underneath Coulter pine trees that were planted after the 1948 fires.
A few of the trees were lost during the Wheeler Fire of 1985, but the majority remain to provide a nice shady camp setting. Water is sometimes available at a spring behind the camp.

Joshua Tree National Park | Lost Horse Mine
Moderate hike | Approximately 13 miles
Joshua Tree National Park is located in southeastern California. Declared a U.S. National Park in 1994 when the U.S. Congress passed the California Desert Protection Act, it had previously been a U.S. National Monument since 1936.
Even before the California Gold Rush of 1849, prospectors were finding gold in southern California. As the take from the mines in the Sierras petered out, miners fanned out into the deserts. Here hot summers, scarce water, limited wood sources, and the difficulty and high cost of transporting equipment and provisions created a challenging environment in which to operate a mine. But a few hardy adventurers persevered and about 300 mines were developed in what is now Joshua Tree National Park—although few were good producers.
An exception is the Lost Horse Mine, which produced 10,000 ounces of gold and 16,000 ounces of silver (worth approximately $5 million today) between 1894 and 1931. When the story of the Lost Horse Mine is told, it sounds like a western campfire tale: gun slinging cowboys, cattle rustlers, horse thieves, the lure of gold, and a sticky-fingered miner.
